History

Start as GOV
Emission was established in 1968 as G.O.V. (Reformed Broadcasting Society). Within a few years, radio projects were started on Curacao, in Surinam, South Africa, Canada, the United States, France and in Hungarian speaking areas. All radio programmes are recorded in the studio in Zwolle. All teksts are also written and translated in The Netherlands. In short: everything happens in Zwolle.

Emission changes course
under the name Emission. But that's not the only change. initially everything was done in Zwolle, but now the partner abroad becomes the centre. And that's the right thing to happen. It is not Emission's responsibility to spread the Gospel, that responsibilty belongs to the local churches, no matter where they are in the world. And that's not the only thing; they know their 'own' people better than anyone else. Emission's role is to provide the churches with the best possible opportunity to utilise their own responsibility. In concrete terms, Emission only assists when that is necessary, providing advice, equipment or money.

Assistance tailored to circumstances
In consultation with the local church we assess which type of assistance is required. The initiative lies with them. In response to their questions we discuss with them the material and financial sides of a project. Often financial support proves to be necessary, for instance to buy broadcasting time. We limit that support to a few years as much as possible. Therefore, already in the initiation fase of a project, together with the partner we try to estimate which possibilities for financial independence exist within a certain time frame. The project must then be tailored to those circumstances. This method has also advantages for Emission. The organisation becomes flexible and it offers chances to assist as many churches as possible for limited periods of time.

Whom do we assist?
Primarily, Emission's scope for providing assistance largely stems from the contacts of the Reformed Churches (Liberated), via its own relationships as well as within the context of the ICRC. On an incidental basis assistance will also be provided outside this framework. An important condition for assistance is that the project conforms to Emission's charter: the Holy Scriptures, which are faithfully proclaimed in the Reformed confessions.
